Things I’m Not Shutting Up About: My Current Design Obsessions

There are certain design details that I keep coming back to lately.

The things I save. The things I send to friends. The things I find myself talking about way too much.

So, consider this your official peek inside my current design brain.

Here’s what I’m not shutting up about right now:

Sculptural Lighting

Lighting doesn't have to simply illuminate a room, it can be the jewelry of the space.

I'm loving fixtures with unexpected shapes, organic silhouettes, dramatic proportions, and finishes that make you stop and look twice.

Give me a light fixture that feels like art and I'll probably find a way to put it somewhere.

Color Drenching

I'm officially tired of the idea that every room needs to be neutral to feel sophisticated.

Color drenching—using one color across the walls, trim, doors, and sometimes ceiling—is such a good way to create an immersive space.

Moody? Yes.

Bold? Absolutely.

Unexpected? Even better.

And if you're not ready to fully commit, start with the ceiling. A little drama never hurt anybody.

Oversized Artwork

I'm still firmly in my go bigger era.

One oversized piece of artwork can completely transform a room and create the focal point that five smaller pieces might struggle to achieve.

And please don't choose the art because it matches your sofa.

Choose something that makes you feel something.

Mixing Vintage With New

I don't want your home to look like you bought everything on the same Tuesday.

Give me a vintage chair next to a contemporary sofa. An antique mirror above a modern console. A new rug underneath an old dining table.

That contrast is what gives a home personality.

New makes it polished. Old makes it interesting.

Statement Rugs

I'm obsessed with rugs that aren't just there to technically check the “rug” box.

Think beautiful patterns, unexpected colors, interesting textures, and pieces that actually help define the room.

And yes, I will continue to remind everyone:

Please buy the bigger rug.

Unexpected Wall Decor

I'm obsessed with the idea that wall decor doesn't have to be a rectangle in a frame.

Give me sculptural orbs. Vintage basketballs. Woven pieces. Plates. Baskets. Objects collected from travels. Architectural fragments. Anything interesting enough to make me stop and ask, “Wait… what is that?”

Your walls are prime real estate, so why limit them to traditional artwork?

I love using unexpected objects to create dimension, personality, and a little bit of surprise. The key is making it feel intentional, not like you started throwing random things at the wall because you had a blank space to fill.

Your home should have a few things that make people curious.

And honestly? A basketball on the wall can absolutely be art.

Designing for Feeling

This might actually be my biggest obsession.

I'm less interested in asking, “What's trending?”

I'm more interested in asking:

“How do you want to feel when you walk into this room?”

Calm? Energized? Sexy? Creative? Grounded? Inspired?

That answer should influence everything from the color palette to the lighting to the materials and artwork.

Because the best interiors aren't just beautiful.

They make you feel something.

The Takeaway

Trends will come and go. My current obsessions will eventually make room for new ones.

And that's okay.

I'm not interested in creating homes that are frozen in time.

I'm interested in creating homes that feel personal, layered, intentional, and alive.

So now I'm curious...
